| When
the (then called) Daily Mirror heard of the story behind the crowd
samples in Hardcore Uproar they got in touch with Pete Tong - who, at the time, was
personally responsible for looking after the A&R of the charts act
of his FFRR label.
Contrary to what the piece claims, it was actually Jonathon's idea (not mine) to record the crowds. This idea was influenced by a record called "Where's The Party Line" - which seemed to use a football crowd. We wanted to take this idea further by recording a real "acid house party" :) It was fortunate that we happened to known the organisers of such party's. These party's were called Hardcore Uproar. The part about agreeing to name the track after them if they let me in isn't quite true because we had been going to the party's for about a year at that point. The truth is, the organisers asked if we would name the track after them in return for allowing us to take the recording equipment into the party (a Fostex half inch reel-to-reel for the geeks :-) It was an awe-inspiring moment when we asked them to stop the music so we could hit record on the tape unit. You can clearly hear me scream "yeaaaaaah" to encourage the crowd to respond... and respond they did. |
Here's the cutting...
